If your infant spent a bit of time in the hospital, it is always good to ask that EI become involved upon discharge. EI will evaluate all aspects of your infants milestone makers and provide Physical therapy, occupational therapy, feeding groups and other aspects your infant may need and/or qualify for.
It is important to note that if you are currently in the hospital, you can also ask the hospital to provide these services for your infant to ensure they are kept on track. You can also ask the hospital if you can meet with a nutritionist who can help you find the right formula for your infant if they suffer severe GERD, assist with feeding issues if s/he has developed an oral aversion, etc.
What is also good to note is that if your infants formula is deemed medically necessary by the hospital, you should be able to have his/her formula covered by your health insurance.
